Does anyone have experience with the alternative air flow meter kits like the upgrade-kit to the lucas am20 from kits and classic or the upgrade to the bosch afm from act (tornado kit 1!2 or 5)?

The power gains for fitting a bigger AFM only really come into play over about 270 BHP to start with and both types need a re map to account for the lower voltage against airflow. The 20AM unit is easier to rescale as its voltage response mimics the 5AM but with a 15% reduction in output across the range, whilst the Bosch unit output is more skewed, so more of the map parameters will need changing. There is a small amount of wiring needed to be done to the loom to account for the connector change and loss of the tune resistor. The Tornado kit is pretty expensive considering its a best guess map, you are far better getting a rolling road remap to make sure its correct. The best person to speak to is "Joolz" at kits and Classics in Derbyshire for an upgrade.

The stock 5lt will outflow the AFM, I think if you just bolt a bigger AFM on it can liberate about 15 BHP. Its not worth significant anything on the 3.9 engines.

For the price of an AFM upgrade and mapping, plus travel to/from Germany you could do a basic aftermarket ecu full install and get it all fitted and mapped in Germany. A MUCH better way of doing it and you're not in a different country if things go wrong ...

I think i would compine it with some vacation and sightseeing in UK... which ecu would you choose? There are a lot available, i think mbe, emmeral and canems are the most common? One problem is i think, to find someone in Germany who is experienced with the rv8

I think someone who knows whatever ecu you decide on is more important than knowing the rover v8 .. they are a very basic engine install ..

Do you have any affordable ECUs manufactured over in Germany ? There's a couple of emerald ecu dealers listed on the emerald website, worth a call ?

If you have even a small adjustment to do after few weeks, it will be much more safer to have someone close to you than in the UK.
