My Griff 500 lives in USA and I need to find a working ETB tachometer ( white face with black trim ring ). I've tried a few USA tach repair websites; however, they don't work on ETB gauges and can't get internal ETB parts apparently. The UK EBT website has not responded to my Emails regarding potential repair and I'm not excited about losing my existing Tach / big hole in the dash for what could be months of shipping back & forth as well as repair time.... if it even is repairable.

I know it's a long shot, but MAYBE someone has a working ETB tach laying around that they'd be willing to sell??

ETB are better on the phone - try +44 1702 601055.

But be warned I got my 1993 Chimaera tach repaired last year and they have few if any more of the moving coils left, so if that is what is broken you may be out of luck and may need to get a new gauge (or a new set if you want them to match).

They did have a few of the circuit boards left though (mine needed both new movement and a new board). The chip on the board is no longer made or stocked anywhere (I tried looking) so unfortunately you can't really try to fix it yourself.

The early Griff and Chimaera Tachometers were actually made by a company called “Motor Power” who were bought by ETB much later.

I opened mine up before sending it off and there is little inside which can be fixed without spares unless you just have crusty connectors which mine also had!

Thxs Spunagain for the phone #....I'll call them later this week.
Question: do you know if I can purchase - from them or others?- a brand NEW tach and have them use my ETB gauge face (same size case, black bezel, will work with the existing tach signal wire etc )?
I'll also ask them when I call them, but you seemed to be at least somewhat knowledgeable re ETB!

Seems a prior owner of my car appears to have drilled a large hole in my tach case: apparently to get out floating instrument light bulbs out?? (#$@!&*)

When I called ETB about fixing mine John at ETB warned me that he may not be able to fix it and the alternative was a new one, but it would not be an exact match to the existing instruments. He told me he could sell me a full matching set if needed.

Re the hole - how big is it - mine does have one in the side - I am guessing to prevent condensation. Photo of mine after the repair- they also repainted my rusty bezel too!

The whole repair costed £92.34!

I think there is a full dashboard on EBay complete with your type of tachometer.

Speedy Cables rebuilt my speedo last year, and because they were converting the digital odo to a new screen with solid state memory they effectively made a new instrument and printed a completely new face to match and fitted a new bezel. Mine are also white faced dials and black bezels. I assume they could make you a new tacho to directly replace yours therefore, if you couldn’t wait for them to rebuild and send you back your own?

Thxs Green Meanie!! I just checked and you were correct: Ebay had the exact same ( looks like it anyways ) ETB tach ( Cream/white face with black rim...) listed, so I bought it! Thxs so much for letting me know as I'm in US and often forget to check UK Ebay for parts for my TVR.
The face color & rim ETB tach I need was only fitted to a small year range for TVR's so good to find one that the owner guarantees does work / returnable if not.

Now I'll at least have my original- but not working- tach for parts if ever needed....
The Ebay UK seller's ad says he ships to USA I should have it with in 3 weeks, so I can install it before the TVR goes back on the road this Spring!

To Spunagain: how did you get your TVR ETB Tach apart as shown in your pics? I can't tell how to get the black trim ring & glass off the case: it seems to be "factory crimped" over the edge of the case. I'd like to take the tach apart and also not have the black trim bezel bent.
Thxs for your help!

I just gently levered out the edge of the bezel from the back with a small flat blade screwdriver, working around the gauge bit by bit.

Be warned I have no idea how I would crimp it back again - you may need a special tool for that - ETB did it for me!
