Never had this before, got the Griff out of the garage yesterday, it’s been laid up for a few weeks, thought I’d give a run on the way to the supermarket before the really bad weather sets in.
About half a mile from home there was a terrific bang like the sound a paint can makes when it implodes or gets squashed, I also noticed that the petrol pump was making a louder noise than usual.
When I got home I restarted and the pump calmed down, but as I was driving into the garage more banging sounds occurred, I have heard of fuel tanks imploding or collapsing due to air issues, if this is the case, is a new tank needed?

Did you get a whoosh of air when you took the filler cap off?

Sounds like a blocked breather. You are sucking out the petrol, but air can't get in to replace it.

Many thanks, where do I find the breather pipe?

?

Although, there was no rush of air when I took the cap off.

Never having owned a Griff, I can't help!

How full is the fuel tank? To test the theory, drive a little way with the cap loose/off - obviously if the tank is brim full, don't as fuel will slosh out. If it drives fine with no banging, then you know it's a breather problem.

Thanks, I’m just going to do that, after speaking to my local TVR guy, it may be the carbon filter?
I’ll post back when I’ve done a test drive.

PS, took it out, all seems fine! so I’m on standby, typical!

Have a great (better?) new year all on Piston Heads.

Excellent! Happy New Year.

Partial blockage that's cleared?

What do you know about parking sensors on a Range Rover Sport? hehe

When I took the tank out of my Griff I found that one of the baffles was floating around inside. Probably had been like it for years looking at the shoddy welds. That could be your issue.
I had it repaired by a decent aluminium welder.
