More Air con - Wiring and condenser
Discussion
Hi all,
Winter project now underway to try to put air con in an non air con 98/99 griff 500
I have the compressor connector on the loom but can't see where the trinary switch connectors are. Anyone any ideas/pictures where the wiring goes ?
I've also heard you can remove/fit the condenser without removing the rad. Was mentioned in a post in the chimaera forum but wondering if anyone else has done this ?
Are there three relays to add on the loom ? The two yellow blocks and another possibly ?
Final question (for now) would be how the air con operates.. I know its from the heater control panel (push hot/cold dial) but before I start to take everything apart does this signal the ECU or one of the relays above to enable the air con compressor ?
I'll be documenting it all if anyone else wants a heads up if they are considering similar.
Thanks all and did someone mention trev4 has done this on a chimaera ?
Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian I made some brackets up and bolted the condenser in front of the radiator. I had to remove the radiator to do it but thought it would be good if I had to remove the radiator in the future, the condenser could be left in situ. Wasn't to bad a job on my MK1 as there is plenty of access through the front.Winter project now underway to try to put air con in an non air con 98/99 griff 500

Can't help with the wiring as I had an air con guy do it for me and I'm running it through the Emerald ECU which lifts the revs when the compressor cuts in sitting in traffic.
Steve_d,
Thanks for the info. When you say high offside in front you mean you can see it from front grill ? Or in the engine bay ? I've got the washer bottle there and an access panel which leads to the fuel canister behind the headlight. (500 98 griff)
Any wiring diagram would be appreciated. I've got a couple of yellow a/c relays on order and i presume the other relay is standard but I need to check.
Trev4,
I've got the original lucas ecu so its probably basic on/off. Useful point though if it can be done with a tweak to the wiring across both radiators.
Cheers all

Send me a PM and I will send back my diagrams. From what I have 2 relays may well be standard but the third seems to have 6 pins so I have no idea what that will be. It does connect to both the fan relay coils.

Yes there are brackets mounting the condenser to the rad. Same bracket also mounts the drier top left when looking through the grill. Thanks for the info. When you say high offside in front you mean you can see it from front grill ?
Found some info this evening from a range rover diagram describing the last relay (base with a green top) as a fan timer which explains the multiple pins.
I worked on a system the other day so also have notes on the wire colours for the trinary switch. will add them to my diagram.
