Bought two new spotlamps to replace broken glasses from Valeo, ordered yesterday at £40 plus VAT & Carriage, arrived today.

What a sod to try and fit! Took off rubber band seal as no room to roll it back in situ, took out old lamp, put in new lamp then struggled to get rubber band back and struggled and struggled.....

Air turned blue so thought of plan B, took note of how far adjusters were screwed in and removed complete backing unit.

Lamp fitted to backplate and rubber band refitted in seconds, polished up grille area behind spotlamps (sad!), connected wiring and srewed units back on car - easy.

Amazing how easy jobs can be when you take the time to think FIRST!!

Now get some Amourfend to protect them and never have to replace them again.

Thanks for the advice, where do I get it from and is it better than Carbodiscs or similar?

I have a set of carbondiscs and they kept falling off, I now have a set of perspex covers that actually fit under the rubbers of the lights. I bought them off a guy at the mid-essex meet he has them made. I'll post a pic when I get a chance.

Glad you posted this. I've noticed one of my lenses is cracked

I had bought some disks a couple of months ago but hadn't got round to fitting them because the rubber bandy thing was sitting too proud for me to get the sticky pads to contact the lens

The rubber band things are a bit pants. I used silicone sealant to bond the light unit to the black plastic ring and binned the rubber band.

I had Carbodisks but Armourfend film is less noticable and less likely to fall off.

Don't assume the spotlights are carefully adjusted. The dealer just lines them up with the wall and is happy when they look about right. Adjusting them has to be the simplest DIY job on the car.

While they're off, you can also insert some Philips Vision bulbs for an instant daylight effect.

any chance that you could post the phone number (and part number if you have it) of where you got the lights. one of mine is cracked and i have been meaning to replace it for ages. £40 +p&p sounds like a good price - if it is for a pair?

Price is £40 plus VAT ("trade" as they call it)per light I'm afraid. Part No is 082348 from Valeo on 0208 297 1439, hope that helps.

I had high impact tape put over mine by Thames Valley Racetech. They use alot of the stuff to cover various bits of their race cars so it's pretty tough.

Not sure how much it cost as they added it to the service bill (along with all of the other extras that always seem to need doing at service time ).

Can't say how well it works other than I haven't broken one yet in the last 6,000 miles.

Hope this helps,
Ian
