Hi,

Input needed from early Griffith owners, now or then, that still have or had cars with Amil five spoke Alloy rims.

Have a look at this photo which lists the markings on the outside of the rim, not the size or offset etc. The only difference I can find is no small hole between two of the wheel nut holes in the Amil TVR rim.
Can anyone spot anything else?

Cheers

My bad, the name Amil is cast inside the Amil Camille Gotti Axia rims.

Cant see any other differences.

Does this mean your Griff has had thre of the wheels replaced with non-TVR branded AMILs at some point in it's history or did TVR also fit the GOTTI branded versions to some Griffs?

I had a pre-cat in 1996 and buckled one of the rear AMILS, TVR quoted £1,000+VAT for a replacement, in 1996 eek

Will have a look alter as I've got both. AMIL's on mine but got some Gotti's too. I've never noticed the hole but maybe its there and I'm just blind. I stil lhave an unused 16" AMIL.

I've got TVR AMIL 15" front wheels and Camille Gotti Axia 16" rears - though they aren't the original wheels, they were long since swapped for those terrible 7 spoke things until I put things right.

I've just trotted into the garage and other than the cast-in writing and the hole in the Camille there is no difference I can see.
Though there is no mention of Amil on the Camille Gotti Axia wheels - unless there is something on the inside.

If you need clarification on anything else please shout up and I'll check for you.

The spoke shoulders are different, they are more rounded or fuller on the AMILs compared to the Gottis' more sharper angular edges.

Thanks all,

First a correction to my OP, thanks Ian the ref' to Amil on the Camille wheels is indeed in the inside and not on the outside face. sorry guys, don't get removing your wheels. I'll amend the original post.

davep, I had seen ref' to the spoke shoulder etc in my searches and I'll take a closer look when they come back from being refreshed.

MikeE, No these will be replacing the 7 spoke Estorils on my pre-cat and the Amil TVR is the odd one out. From what I can gather the Amil Camille/G/A were the original fitment and later Amil TVR marked rims came later and also a replacement for damaged A/C/G/A's.

And you will guess what my next question will be.

Ian,
Are those clip in wheel centres original, I can't find any that protrude that far out?

Rims due to be ready tomorrow and I'm tempted to ask if anyone wants to swap a 16" Amil/C/G/A for a refurbed 16" Amil TVR?

Also will be looking for new tyres, have to say as long as they have a reasonable speed rating and are round and black, then they will do for my use these days, pottering around in the sun making pre-cat noises.

Cheers

As far as I know they are original centres Lance. They are getting a bit fragile now and a couple of the lungs on the back are broken so I’ve got a set of MG centres to go on but they need a little bit of prep first.

They are the original ones - have they got M129 (from memory) stamped onto the back of them? The MG ones fit straight off but they are snug. Did you get the centre badges a few years back which are identical and I think were the same as on the S series.

M126 is on the back of mine Paul, so that was a good shout from memory - you sad git!

I've just dug out my replacement centres. I have 2 sets but don't know why.

1 set is chrome metal with MG badges
1 set is black metal with no badge
And I have a set of 4 sticky backed and slightly domed TVR logos though I don't remember if I bought them with the black centres or from somewhere else.
The logos are 47mm (in case anyone is interested)

Just to clarify, which MG centres fit the AMIL wheels?

The comment on the TVR AMIL being later and the Gotti ones being earlier was interesting. Mine is an early pre-cat and has the TVR AMIL branded wheels. They may not be original, but I have a lot of history with the car and there is no reference to new wheels at any stage.

Duncan,
You could be right about which version of the Amils was supplied first, it's only what I've gathered from the 800 odd pages still available on the Griff' forum. nerd
I have some history with my car but is incomplete, something I must sort out.

You probably bought the S centres as did I so they should be identical to the centres you have. Not sure where you got the black metal caps from unless you sprayed them?. The metal MG ones are as per MGB Rostyle wheels, mgbhive.co.uk/product/17-mgb-rostyle-centre-cap-inc-badge-ahh9268/
Centres will be a challenge.

I've searched for where I bought the black centre caps from but can't find any information.
They have with them a set of TVR badges.

They are a great fit and as they are black they look a lot better than the MG / S centres.
They do look very much like the chromed ones with the 4 x little dimples in the middle. But I haven't painted them. They are still in their plastic bags.
