I have spiders all round on my Griffith. Currently 225/45 ZR 15 93W front and 245/45 ZR 16 94W rears, T1R's.

It's not going to be doing loads of miles so I'll take grip over mileage. The last time I spoke to a few folks they said T1R's are the tyres of choice still, is this the case?

Still looking at options.

What are your thoughts on;

ZZR’s with...

195/50/16 (84) front
225/45/16 (89) rear

Has anyone tried these on 16’s all round on their griff or Chim?

Thanks guys.

T1Rs are not the best. They are pretty much a budget tyre.

I would fit a set of Uniroyal RainSport 3s if you can get the size.

I couldn't with my wheel combination so settled with a set of Kumho Ectas Le Sport. A much more compliant ride then the Toyo R1Rs that I had fitted previously which were more of a track/wet tyre that has stiffer sidewalls even though the grip was great.

T1Rs are an old model now, Toyo have replaced them with the TR1 in the last few months and claim much better wet weather performance. Unfortunately I've been waiting a month or two for Demon Tweeks to get the 225/50 15s back in stock so can't comment on them and there aren't many reviews around yet.

I've got T1-Rs on the front and recently fitted TR-1s on the rear (245/45-15). I eventually bought them from Demon-Tweaks despite them listing them as "XL" on the website (this was wrong) as local suppliers could not get them.

I'm happy with them, better than the 12+ year old Falkens I had on previously but then they should be given the age of the old tyres. Not sure I can really comment on how much better or worse they might be than another tyre given I have not tried the others.

As phased said. Rainsports 3's. Differ the league for outright grip and the road tyre of choice for most in the sprinting fraternity.

If you're only going to go out in the dry and 'warm' then a set of trackday tyres would be my choice. Nankang NS-2R. Work OK in the wet and sticky enough to handle the extra oommmpphhh you've added.

If you only want a road tyre then the Rainsport 3 has worked just fine on the Tam and the Sag - including trackdays.

You may need to change the sizes to more common ones - TVR picked funny sizes to begin with - but should find a size that won't effect the speedo too much. I'd get the tracking etc... done after fitting the tyres.

Plenty of track day tyre choice in the stock sizes, something I did consider but I was too chicken about driving the car home on a day when it was raining. 225 was the closest I could find for the rears that was available and close to stock, with the advantage that you can choose as slightly larger rolling diameter to get the speedo somewhere close to accurate (assuming all Griff speedos are as "hopeful" as mine!)

Edit: I'm looking out the window at the rain and thinking maybe it was a good choice not to go for trackday tyres.

I've ran the NS-2r on wet TDs and in torential eurotour conditions. Didn't feel bad at anytime.

Get something with a soft compound that you can have fun with. Let’s face it, Griffs don’t do mega miles or wet use so you might as well have something grippy. I use R888Rs & they wont kill you in the wet- just slow down a bit.
Oh & I saw your Griff @ Jool’s last week, looks very nice smile

Hi Folks, I have read through this thread but can’t seem to see anyone running original sizes (at least what I believe to be). I am in Australia and I have a V8S which many many years ago before emigrating I put some tidier Oz spilt rims on off a Griff to replace my tired looking ones that came as a factory option on mine. The Griffs are 15” front and 16” rears and were shod with 205 60 15 and 225 50 16 respectively. I have a matching set of Bridgestone RE71’s in those sizes on that are well overdue replacing. Can anyone tell me what tyres you guys in the UK are able to get as I’m struggling to find the same make & model tyre in both of those sizes. Any suggestions gratefully received
