OK chaps, whats the grif like in very hot weather. As you may or may not know I''ve being toying with idea of getting one for a while now, but I live in the french riveria, I''m a bit concerned that it''ll overheat all the time, when (and I will be in the summer) stuck in traffic? cheers

On this topic, could someone comment on my post in the engine temp thread in the Chimaera bit? Bosshog, as long long as the cooling system is in good nick things should be OK. For extra cooling in hot places you can get Cerbera fans fitted which are more efficient. Driller Ice Blue Griff500

My Griffith 500, overheated when I first had it, I had the radiator and complete cooling system(header tank etc) replaced and this completely sorted it out. I used it every day after that commuting in and out of London and on long trips in very hot and very cold weather. The only problems I found were that it got very hot in the cabin (no aircon). Also it sometimes refused to start when it got very hot until it had been left to cool down for 10 mins. I had the fans wired to a manual switch which helped a lot. I had the starter motor wrapped in Nomex heatseal and had it replaced 3 times to try to cure this. It got better but never completely went away. The temp used to go up to about 99 to 105 but never overheated again. Good luck.

Driller Once mine is up to temp it hovers between 85 and 92, irrespective of the weather. It has never yet over heated though I do suspect that the 'otter' switch is incorrect as the fans come on just over 90 and turn off at about 85-7! I'm sure they ought to stay on longer?? Hope this helps Cheers Dan

Thanks Dan yes that helps a lot, based on the "if more than 1 does it then it's probably ok" theory Don't know why my fans stay on though-they must be stubborn B@s@a@s! Driller Ice Blue Griff500

Mine does the same. The temp gauge barely moves between fans on and off. They do stop the engine going over 90 though. Ian A Griff 500

Thats all right then I was a bit concerned that there seemed to be a fair amount of turning on and turning off with the fans! I assumed that the fans would cut in and stay on until there was a substantial change in temp.... but obviously not! Edited by dan on Thursday 21st June 16:36

My Griff has yet to overheat, try though I might she just keeps going. The advice about manual override on the fans is a good one for lots of stationary traffic, the other I would consider is a smaller front No plate to let more air thorough. Othewise I don't see a problem. Anyone who went to Le Mans last year will know how much of a test that was.

Le Mans last year was a test indeed! My Griff 500 got very hot and a little grumbly, but still didn't throw it's toys (or coolant) out of the pram. It sufferd from fuel boiling in the injector rails when the tank was low, and toasted drivers feet for most of the way! Does anyone else have a blower that only adjusts between hot and blast furnace?

My Griff never has any problems with overheating and fans cut in fine. The fuse on of the fans failed recently and one fan on it's own just about kept the temp in check. However the bloody heat pumped into the footwells etc is terrible. People always ask me what the little silver nobs are for.. I tell em they're for decoration.

Mine has done this a couple of times. It wont start (or even turn over), I have to hold the ignition key in the starting position for a couple of minutes then it will fire ok. Temperature wise it's been fine, never goes above an indicated 90 - although I suspect the gauge isn't the most accurate. Unfortunately I'm also unable to get any cold air through the vents. Can hear the various motors turning but don't seem to get much difference in temperature - just hot or bloody hot. Graham

apparently the route for the cool outside air to get in is between the l/h inner/outer wing, so I suppose it's never going to be that cool

I've had the griff in the south of france several times, car never missed a beat, but I bloody well did, it's boiling in there (not as bad as in a chimp with dark blue leather!!!) but if you are having one there all the time, I'd suggest getting uprated aircon and some better insulation in the firewall otherwise you'll get roasted. On the other hand....even without the poofpack it'll be fun.

Has anyone had aircon retro fitted to their TVR at a reasonable price ? Factory fitted is v. expensive, and apparently not very good !
