when not having fun and therefore trying to preserve fuel (yeah I know it''s a TVR) what''s the lowest RPM one can use without damaging the engine? I reckon about 1500 "sounds" about right. Driller Ice Blue Griff500

Guys, It's a V8! Torque in abundance! You shouldn't need to worry, so long as the engine isn't labouring for extended periods (i.e constant sub 1200ish rpm at a guess.) Any 'real' mechanics care to confirm / shoot me down for my ignorance Sparks

It varies, but most V8s will pootle along quite happily at 1500 rpm. Below 1500 some engines start to get unhappy running at low throttle openings - it varies from day to day and from car to car. I prefer to keep it above 2000 rpm to give a little more engine braking and avoid getting into the 1500 rpm danger zone, it also has more torque for nipping through traffic. As far as engine wear goes, I think the only factor is that the load on the cam goes down as the revs increases, but I haven't come across any evidence that sustained low revs causes significant cam wear. Cheers, Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

Absolutely agree, as I aluded to earlier I think it's important to listen to what the engine is saying to you. Driller Ice Blue Griff500
