If any of you out there are current or ex civil servants, BT employees, Post Office employees or a host of other occupations and are NOT Civil Service Motoring Association (CSMA) members, I have the following advice for you:

JOIN NOW!!!

Why? The discounts on new and used cars, Britannia Rescue cover, holidays, electrical goods, Insurance and loads of other stuff are reason enough.

BUT - I have just got back from a full track day at Castle Combe where I got about an hour and a half of track time for £95 !!! This has got to be a cracking deal for anyone's money. Yes, my Mini was totally outgunned by F355s, 944s, a Jag XK120, Tuscan, Griffith and numerous others, but I had a great day nonetheless. And embarrassed a few folks round the twisties

BTW - no, I am not on the payroll! But if you are eligable to join, you are seriously missing out if you are not a member.

See www.csma.uk.com

Hmmm. Civil servants in F355s,944s, jag XK120s, Tuscans and Griffs.

Good to see all that extra tax this govenrment is stealing from us is going to good use.

Dont be such a sourpuss. I'm in the CSMA 'cos missus Leadfoot is a civil servant (land registry), you're more than welcome to swap salaries with her if you want!

For trackday value you cannot beat the Hungaroring, approximately 15GBP for a whole day!

Hi James, good to meet you at Castle Combe on Monday. I agree, very good value day, just a bit frustrated that I couldn't drive. Car (944 turbo) just had cam belts, etc. Need to do 1000+ miles and have them adjusted before I venture on a track again. Allowing kids a ride during the lunch break was also a good PR exercise.

I'm driving at Spa on 8th and 9th Oct, 175:00 per day, open pit lane.

Alos, join the BMW car club GB (you don't need a BMW or have use of one), Bedford Autodrome GT circuit is available for 100:00, Croft and Castle Combe for around 95:00/110:00. But you will be on track with many MPower (M3/M5/Z's, Coupe) cars.

PS the seven evenings at Silverstone GP during July and August at 110:00 were the tops. Between 1.5 and 2.25 track time (events went to open pit lane). At 100:00 for that much time on the full GP circuit was magic. Shredded my front tyres on the August evening though.

The day I did there was very good, well organised, no problems. I actually joined the BMW car Club GB just to that day. Annual cost is 35:00 inc mags, offers, etc. So, its either a total cost of 135:00 for Bedford GT, or spread the annual fee over a few cheap trackdays and lose it.

Spa trip is organised by AutoTrack, (its on the calendar), the Silverstone evenings were by Gold Track.
