There's a 4.0 in the classifieds for about that... and I've also seen 4.3's in that sort of range of late too. There's also quite a few 4.0 Chimera's about for that money as well.

If you're considering changing up in the new year, I'd be interested in the S3...!

"budget Griff" - isn't that an oxymoron?

I sold mine very cheap... and it was in great shape...apart from some damp carpets. Just need to find a good one. Remember though, even a good one will cost come service time...

Nope!

I've hankered for a TVR for YEARS. I always loved the S series when it came out and although I adore the rest of the range (both past and present) they don't fit my budget to well... something the S is now in.

A drove an S3 a few years back and loved it... and the need hasn't diminished yet. I've worked hard at school, at Uni and I work hard at my job... so I kinda feel that I deserve to get one!

By the looks of it, it's a bug, and once you get an S, you want a Griff... then a Cerbie.. then a Tuscan etc etc. We all have our vices!

Anyway... can't sell the Puma till I've had it nine months (Ford terms as it was bought on discount) and I'm in the process of changing jobs AND relocating...

We all need a dream.. and I'm getting closer to mine, that's all.

OK, seems some people get the bug in that way.. and move from one TVR to another! Nice motor though apache.. not seen a Griff in that shade before... quite like the contrast with the anthracite wheels too... looks mean.

oh, and in my heart-felt prose below, I neglected to mention that I've been building up my driving experience and NCB...!

Bought 4.0 in April - bit the guy's hand off as it was even cheaper than Tom's (which I saw, nice car!). 55k miles, spent a grand on things needing doing, still need new hood, windscreen & dash veneer and it will be 110% wizard. Love it to bits, no running probs so far (touch wood) , and NOTHING has overtaken this green bullet in 2500 fanbloodytastic miles.

Maybe I was lucky, maybe I've got some big shocks to come, but if you can live with a plodding old 4.0 then yep you can find a budget Griff

Nothing plodding about it - you'll still beat almost everything on the road and it sounds much better than a 500.

Podie - hope you get your S3. Pretty cars. That was my first TVR too and I loved it. Ash green/magnolia, former company car. Bought it well and made £1800 profit on it! Nice to see someone hankering after a TVR that's not a Griff or Chimp.

There is a blue one dumped in Alicante airport carpark, It has been there for a while, but looked alright. The operators in spain will take offers on cars left with them, I'd say that would be a cheap TVR. (to buy)

I concur it was a good deal (as I bought it...) but don't believe all you read about servicing - there are a lot of good specialists around now working on the V8's especially if you don't mind getting your hands greasy and doing some of the jobs yourself.

Andy

PS Carpets weren't damp - more rotten but thats been sorted now....

Don't think so Zippy though that is my "manor" as it were!
Must have been some other discretely coloured Griff!

Agreed. 4 litres of un-catted V8

12k will get you a 4.0 Griff, and not a bad one at that. Save another 1.5k and you could have had my beautifull 4.3. IF I was selling it.

But I'm not. So there......

I think there was just a touch of "tongue in cheek" in that comment Simpo, believe me the old man's "green bullet" is quick - especially from the passenger seat!!!

True. I have a soft spot for the 4.0 and so often it seems to be dismissed in comparisons. I know which one I'd rather thrash over uncertain country lanes - and it's not the 500!

a 4.3 would be nice but ive seen some top 4ltr jobbies, i guess its just buying the car then not being able to run it that worries me.

Yeah well my advice is - find one you like & can afford, then get your local TVR agent to give it an inspection. David Hendry did mine for about £60 and were incredibly thorough - even to the extent of pointing out a nail in the tyre. I thought it was worth every penny, and you will know what you have to do & whether you can afford to do it.

and yes, once you've had (and loved) an S you will want a Griff.
