Following an altercation with a kerb I find myself in the market for a new set of wheels - my garage tell me TVR no longer hold any 16" Griffith 5.0 wheels, thus I will need to find myself a whole set of new ones. I currently have 15" front and 16" rear but am not neccessarily constrained by this now.

IYHO,
(a) What non-TVR wheels do you think would look great on a dark blue Chimaera
(b) What wheel (/tyre) size combinations are best suited (to a 5.0L)

Any options seriously considered!

There is chap on here with the member name of Kerniki (Nik) who has fitted alternative wheels to his Chimaera which look pretty good. YOu'd need to ask him what they are and I haven't seen him post for a while but here's the pic. Rich...

I have been looking... and looking....and looking.

Fact is, it's not easy finding a set of wheels. I am still looking for either two originals for the left side, or new all around. I really would prefer to stay with original sizes. (I have brand new rubber all the way around)

I have found a store that can set me up with a set of Italian jobs that will fit the car perfect. They are not exactly what I wanted, but I am going to take them.

Station Hill Garage has been trying to find me two original, or Griff wheels to no avail, but they did offer to do a Tuscan "similar" style 18 inch wheel. If you don't care about tyres, or staying with the origianl sizes, you may want to check with a TVR dealer and see what they can offer.

Pop in and see Colin's old car at Team Proactive. The wheels and setup 16 front 18 rear look and work good.

Yes TVRinBFG,

I saw Colin's car today at Proactive - definitely tempting. (how does one go about cleaning 16 spoke alloys?!!)

My rear tyres are ready to let go someday soon thus I could quite easily move up to 18's now.

Kerniki's certainly look bloody smart - any wheel experts know what make they are (better still, are you there Kerniki??)

Tuscan wheels are 5 bolt so unless you want to spend big wonga modifying hubs etc thats a nono......thats why I settled for Cerby RL 7's, although they are no longer in production. Ben yours will look as cool with similar wheels....I think the lowered number plate makes it look better too

They would apart from the fact that the tuscans have five studs and the chimaeras only have four!!!!, kerniki wheels look like they could be made by adikt or alternativly (sp??) wheelmania have there own brand called mania wheels and they make a wheel very similar!!

My choice (after the 16" Griffs all round that my Tiv is currently on) would be early Griff OZ cross spokes-16" front and rear of course on 225 (f) and 245 (r) 45 series tyres.
One of the dealers recently had a new (last 100) Griff for sale , with these OZ's - looked Vspecial.
Whether they were new stock or "remanufactured" old items ,I dont know.
I did think these too were no longer available.

BTW I originally ordered 17" Raceline RL7's for mine, but after 8 months had to cancel as they were no longer available - consequently ther'e now about as rare as unicorn poo .

I got a spare set of wheels from a poster called Corin Denton, I have not seen him post for a while however his car looked the dogs with a set of 17" Kahn RSR howeverf I can't remember which tyres he went for in the end - Avon I seem to remember.

May be worth getting in touch with him.

I think the lowered plate looks better with the older front end (with the mesh rather than the hole). I'm not usualy a bolt on fan but I have to say the wheels on Kerniki's look excellent

So come on, lets see some more non standard cars

Not a cue for more posts on the carisma cerb

Running a pretty much boggo Chimaera is good, but I must say that Kerniki's Chimaera just looks brilliant. It is a strange thing - almost all TVR's look good in standard, but customised to Max Power standards they look trash (which is why the majority of owners dont do it). However, the suble (and not so suble) changes that most owners do actually look good.....

Could this be a case of TVR owners having "taste"?

Cheers,

Paul

P.S. Apache, didnt realise that your wheels were Cerbera ones... noticed yours at Duxford next to the other Apache coloured one - and yours looked much nicer on those wheels..... Wife thought so too..

Nice one RB,

There does appear to be more you can do to the older style front, trying to look a bit too much like an AC for my liking though (one of the reasons I changed the lights too)

Plans for yours ??

One thing I've done, which you can never see in any of my photos, is I've got the same mesh under the bonnet vents, it makes more of a difference than you would imagine, and I like it which is really all that matters The more I look at the front I'm tempted to mesh the indicator grilles and fit white lens, but then again I want a Cerbera so may leave it alone and start work on that when I get one. My inital insperation for the mesh bits was actually from a facelifted front end car, which had been retrimed by Aston Martin (Or so the dealer said) and that had a mesh grill in the lower half of the 'mouth' and mesh bonnet vents, as well as a very smart interier

Closest wheel I've seen to the spiders is the Wolfrace Urban Racer 7. Don't know if they do it in the right fitment for a Chim, but here's a link to the website if anyones interested.
www.wolfrace.co.uk/wheel-pages/ur7.htm

They sell them in the bigger halfords stores.
