Griff more reliable by NO modifications !?
Discussion
I saw this in an ad for a Griffith 4.3:
".......... No modifications to engine nor chip, therefore 100% reliable ....".
Bearing in mind that the person wants to sell his car IMHO this is quite a daring statement. I'm curious as to who is sharing this statement,

Depends what it is... who done it and what it does. Generally a modded car is always going to potentially provide a lot of uncertainty and many owners steer clear because they are less sure what they are getting. Especially in a buyer's market.
As for reliability... could improve it or make it worse. How's that for sitting on the fence?

Hmm thats tricky, if I had not modified the wiring for my fans it would not be very reliable at all!
Mods within reason would not bother me, for instance there are many cars owned by people here who have had Zertec bits on that I'm positive will be utterly fine. Also the Griff 500 that Steve bought from Alex has had some mods yet he seems very happy with it. I has to depend on what they are (it massive engine mods with no thought to cooling or braking) and who has done them.

i have had a mark adams chip modification. my 4.3 originally came with the 450seac chip - according to mark, not really the right chip for the engine. the replacement chip is now correct for the engine, and with the improved engine mapping i get better fuel economy, smoother rev range etc = less wear on the engine components. so a chip can be better - although i would agree that a chip upgrade could be detrimental. imo it is always worth finding out exactly what work has been done before dismissing a chipped griff as unreliable or whatever.
