Rory

This is a frequently asked question, you can do a search and find loads of information.

One thing though, It's always interesting to see where (I mean which forum) people post it.

By posting under the Griffith header, does this mean you have subconciously already decided your preference?

as i understand it post 95/96 they all have the same chassis and brakes, but the griff and the 5ltr chim have different springs dampers to the 4 and 4.5 chim.

earlier chims had smaller brakes and no anti-roll bar i think...

other than that i think its mainly cosmetic and how big a boot you need ( the chims is much bigger)

at the end of the day if your looking at late model 5ltr cars i think its just a case of going with what floats yer boat.

If your looking at grif v 4ltr chim then the standard 4ltr will be slowers softer and a little easier to live with less likley to spit you in to a hedge ( everything is relative mind)

When my missus and I tried out TVRs for size, we both felt we could fit in a Griff easier than a Chimera, as we're both 6'+. It goes for the driver and the passenger seat too as the Griff has an arched glovebox that's more accomodating for long legs. So there was no choice for us!

Unless you absolutely positively cannot live without a bigger boot buy the Griff. If you dont you'll have second thoughts everytime you see one. the griff is the purer car and more rewarding imo.

Yes, but for many people, the Chimaera is one of the most stunning cars ever designed. The Griff is merely gorgeous.

I have to say I couldn't disagree more. I think the Chimp is very plain compared to the Griff. Its a poor mans comprimise imo. Too common by half too :P

Besides which I figured that as he is in here asking which one is best he probably doesn't have a strong preference looks wise anyway.

Can I just ask a question too??

I was at a dealer's yesterday looking at Griffs and Chims, and while the dealer was quite happy to sell me a 4.0 litre Chim, he said the early 4.0 litre Griffs weren't as well made (and I can't afford a 5.0 litre Griff, although I'd like to!). What did he mean by that?? Maybe that his profit margin isn't as great on Griffs?

Any and all views gratefully accepted!

Maybe he just wanted to shift a Chim that has been sitting on his forecourt too long. You need to buy as you find - providing you know what you're looking for. For a dealer to say that is nonsense - I bet there are many 4ltr Griff owners who are plenty happy....I would be as it should be my next car!

I can understand that the 4.0 werent as well made as the 5.0 as u would find in any car company the earlier ones are the guinea pigs for the newer ones and that will continue as long as the company does.

I think its called PROGRESSION

But saying that,I am sure/possitive that there are many well sorted 4.0's as any problems (if any at all) would of been well sorted by now.

I also agree with the comment about the dealer trying to get rid of the Chimeara.

Griffs are easier to wash (probably)
