Is it or Isn't it

Right,
After reading a few threads on The Griffith forum i had come to the conclusion that as my car would not start on the odd occasion when hot it was probably due to the starter motor not engageing due to heat dissipation(sp?)/Starter motor on its way out/The feed cable to hot and not allowing anything to flow through it??
Well i had also heard that it could also be the alarm, which the more i think of the symptons is more likely as the starter and main wire feeding it look fairly new(no records though).
What would help me would be if anyone could tell me if you should still hear the petrol pump prime whan you turn the ignition on.I think it should sound but on the occasions my car has decided not to start i havnt heard it prime which has led me to believe it is the alarm.
Any confurmation of this would be greatly appreciated.

Simon... you and I sound as though we have the same problems at the mo... had to drive home tonight heel n' toeing all the way to stop her from stalling once she got hot, generally OK starting but the immobiliser has also gone bendy..
Mine's going in next Monday for a health check.. I think the gremlins have taken their holidays in our griffs!

hi Craig
I dont have a problem stalling(x'd fingers).
Its just now and then when i stop after driving it dont start for about 20mins,nothin zilch happens.
And its very intermitant, thats whats annoying i never know when its goner happen.
I think i might get someone to look at the alarm/or at least try and follow the cable route myself to see what i can find.

Simon,
I had a problem with my Chimaera which was similar.
If, when starting the car from cold or hot I switched off the ignition before the engine caught, or, as happened on a couple of occasions, I stalled the car reversing it out of the garage, if I tried to start it again the engine would just turn over and not catch. I had to leave it for a while before it would start.
A couple of days before I swapped it for a Tuscan, it did it again. After 5 minutes of turning the engine over, I took the ignition key out, set the alarm, unset the alarm and hey presto it started first time. This may have been a coincidence but if you havent tried it it might be worth a go.

Yup, Even if the starter motor, or cable to it, is at fault you would expect the fuel pump to run when the ignition is switched ON.
Agreed. The only time you wouldn't hear the pump prime is if the immobiliser alarm/immobiliser has engaged, thus isolating the engine by denying ignition.
