Forgive me for being a thicky, but can anyone tell me what the "Serpentine" engine is, as i,ve seen it mentioned in some Griffith 500 adverts.

You cant afford a Griff yet,not untill you sell the boat and build a new garage...

Yes, sell that damn boat!

Serpentine engines have a single "fan" belt which loops around water-pump, alternator, PAS pump, A/C pump (if fitted. As opposed to a pre-serpentine which had more than one fan belt.

There are other changes which appeared over the years, like catalytic converters, added header tank for cooling system etcetera, but I think that the serpentine moniker refers to the drive belt setup as above.

You are correct that its the serpentine belt that gives its name to the engine. All Chimaera / Griffith engines became 'serpentine' from late 1994. I believe the oil pump changed and the alternator was moved to the n/s as well

Would love to sell my boat (any takers). But if dangerous could only drag himself out from under that sticky duvet of his and come and help me fit these damn wheel guards on the trailer it would be a great help.
