When I start the engine from cold there is a very short screeching noise right when it fires up. It doesn't happen when the engine has reached operating temperature. Does anybody else have this on a Griff 500. Should I be concerned or is it the usual "they all do that Sir"? Thanks for your feedback! Andy

It is probably the alternator belt loose or worn

Agree with the gamekeeper, probably alternator drive belt as mine did it. Try that first as it's probably going to be the cheapest fix. You could always spray it with some belt lubricant and if it stops (albeit temporarily) then that's it!

Thanks for all the tips! Maybe I did not explain it very well, the noise happens only at cold startup and lasts a few tenths of a second. After that everything is perfect. Nothing serious really, I was just wondering if other Griffs/Chims had it too.

Starter motor related - possibly. Try bump starting it to eliminate/pinpoint starter motor?

Almost certainly the alternator belt. [a]www.locost-racing.com[/a] Car No. 13
