Hot start problem
Discussion
After a decent run ie. car up to normal running temp, and engine is stopped,er like for petrol the engine will not restart - major embarassment/who's the ****er in the TVR?
Every thing is normal on attempting to restart, except that on turning the ignition key to the final position there is nothing, there is no response from the starter motor. After waiting a while, 20 minutes or so, the car starts as normal and runs ok.
I am going back to the dealer but he has no idea what is the matter. Please respond with your thoughts.
Maximum grin factor until it needs fuel.
A known problem.
Your starter motor has started its trip to that great place in the sky where starter motors go to die, all as a result of overheating in the engine bay. It will take maybe a few months, maybe a year or two before it goes titsup.com completely.
Enjoy that TVR 'character' we all know and love. Or get your dealer to swap it for a mere £400 inc labour. Or go to Tower View Race Services who will probably source you a replacement for around £100 or so plus an hour's labour.
Personally, I waited (or 'monitored the situation' as Mark at Tower View would have it) until the final gasp -- and then paid dealer prices in an emergency 'car won't start situation'...
The choice is yours.

Mine has the same problem, it has had: the starter motor replaced 3 times, a better earth added, been rewired etc etc. I have since had a switch wired to bring the fans on, whenever the car starts to get hot I use this and it helps.
Sometimes if the car is really hot it still won't start, however, only for about a couple of minutes, I've stopped worrying. It always starts once the temp is low enough that the fans don't need to automatically come on.
