Hi all,

After looking at a load of cars I've finally settled on a nice low mileage FSH 1993 Griff 500.

Couple of issues with the car though.

1) The alarm plipper is missing. This means that I won't be able to lock the car

This isn't a big worry as I'm planning to have a better Clifford alarm fitted the day I pick it up.

The question is i) is the central locking done with solenoids and ii) does anyone know if an after market alarm can be linked into them (I suspect yes to both parts). PS is the factory fitted a Meta?

2) Car has no bonnet stay (Metal bit). Where can I get one from and has anyone fitted one from another car sucessfully.

Help appreciated

I doubt if it is a Meta... more likely a Foxguard or Gemini. Yes solenoids are used. A Clifford upgrade shouldn't be a problem. Make sure they take care with the dash when it comes out.

Bonnet struts should be available from TVR. Or make one up yourself using some ally tubing.

Possibly a Gemini. My 92 Griff had one and it was much better to use than the Meta fitted on my 97 one. For example, it worked instantly, from any angle and from a decent range. The Meta is crap (though the system may be technically better, of course)

A friend had just bought a 95 Griff and that has a Foxguard. Whilst the Gemini had one biggish round button, the Foxguard has two little buttons side by side.

'Car has no bonnet stay (Metal bit).

Bonnet stay? Luxury! Griffs have a couple of wobbly coathangers in the place where the bonnet stay shoud be! Assuming you have the cross-piece (or else you wouldn't have the rollers!), as SH says it's just a bit of bent ally tube, badly fixed to the central tab with a grommet. I suggest you go for rod though, and possibly s/s for strength. Suggest you look at another Griff to see how it works.

Many Thanks.

Yes Alarm is a Meta (according to the windscreen sticker) perhaps after market.

Given that the local Meta dealer wants over £150 for 2 x plippers programmed with no return if theres an alarm fault the Clifford seems a better option.

Alarm booked for imediately after picking up for obvious reasons.

I'll habve a a look at the car once I've got it with a view to fabricating a bonnet stay.

Cheers

If you do figure out how to design a better bonnet stay that looks nice and works well, let me know - it's one of my bugbears and lets the whole car down.

I never said you'd be able to use it just that I'd make one.

I'd forgotten about temperature.

I get the car on Friday. Its still sinking in really as I've been activly looking for the last 6 months and not found much I've liked in the way of earlier cars at dealers.

I reckon I'll be well excited getting it home. I'm hoping for dry weather next weekend.

If you look in the bible you will find that the solution is simple. I whipped some string around the stay where I would touch it and voila no burnt fingers.
