Mine has two settings,

On and quite hot and
On and really hot.

I'm not asking for much - just an Off will do!

Anyone?

Ah, you'll be wanting the manual-air-conditioning-no-cost-option then sir.

You push the right hand of the two buttons together on the dash board and when you pull the two rear metal switches forward there's a handy place at the back to slot in the little black panel that falls out.

That way you only get blasted with desert grade hot air from around the screen every time you slow down a bit and the fans come on.

I've always thought that the window switches make much better heater controls. 'Down' = cold, 'up' = hot. On my old Griff 4.0 I wondered why no air ever came out of the right-hand dash vent. I pulled it out carefully and found a grey plumbers 'elbow' on the back. The other end of the elbow was attached to - nothing!

The 500 does seem to be better than the 4.0 though, ie the controls do make a slight difference, except I can never remember the difference between the two left ones!

I suppose Peter Wheeler would explain it away by saying only southern softies need ventilation...!

When I got my 4.3 a few years ago, I was told that there were 2 settings by the salesman... hot and bloody hot! Having said that, I find that in fact you can get it to blow cold air. The important thing is to keep your finger on the switch for a bit, to allow the motor which drives the valve to wind from hot to cold. I discovered this by accident, and had always been just pressing the swith as you would normally, without any instructions to the contrary. The lack of flow through the air vents in the dash is often due to the pipework detatching itself from the vent . I intend to strip down and re-assemble the whole setup one day, using some form of attachment other than a simple push fit. In particular, I find the left hand of the 2 centre vents will either pop out of the dash or the tube falls off the back. This seems to be because the back of the glovebox pushes on the duct for this particular vent. Again, I reckon this can be dealt with by cable tying the tube out of the way, when I get around to it....

My heater does not respond to the controls - it is either hot or boiling!! Took the wife out at the weekend and she asked me to turn the heating down in the car - so I said I would turn on the aircon - and opened the window - she laughed and said "so thats what you mean about TVR`s being unique" !! (what does she know!!)
One very hot Griffith owner

The valve can become out of step with the control setting. It can be set up again by moving the variable resistor on the valve.
