Does anyone know the MOST POWER that anyone has ever managed to cramp under the bonnet of a Chimera or Griffith with the Rover Engine. Bonkers Race engines, Blowers, Twin Turbos, Nitros, Top Fuel - I think I really need about 500bhp! (Not Really)

Richard Thorpe at Wedge Automotive has/had a Nitrous assisted Griff 500, he was doing at the time three kits +100bhp, +200bhp and +300bhp. Apparently he tested the +300bhp in the middle lane of a deserted motorway and his comment was " I was glad I was in the middle lane!!!"

If you are hungry for more power then you could contact him.

I know a guy who has had an Ultimate spec all alloy small block chevy built for his new Can-am Ultima - was dyno'd at 562bhp (7.1 lftr thats about as big as a small block can go) - god know what torque! - Just wonder if the would fit (not intending to do it - he did have a New 911 Turbo box in it as well to handle to power!

'tuscan 4.5 rover engine'

Eh? Tuscans have AJP8 (V8) or AJP6 (straight six) engines. Or am I missing something?

The original Tuscan racer was launched with a 4.5litre Rover V8, this was replaced around 93/94 with the AJP8. They have never had Speed6 engines

I remember Steve Green rolling his original Cortina at Santa Pod some years ago. His current car still runs a 4.5L rover though I believe. Runs in the high 8's, so must be one of the quickest rover powered cars around I should think!!!

Until very recently I owned that Griff 500, the Nitrous had been removed, but still the only words I can use to describe the performance is Mental It was easily the fastest Rover powered TVR I've ever driven (and that has been a few now). Here is a piccy of it.

Hexham TVR have it for sale if anyone is interested.

I knew Steve and his original Cortina V8 back in the early '80s when we raced in Street Class at the Pod. His car was immaculate and he used to beat us most times. Nice to know he's still doing it

Don't forget there are 3 completely different types of tuscan (I think!).
The original, the racer, and the new 'swordfish' one.

Anyone feel free to slap me if that's wrong

There is a chap on the south coast - who has a
mental tin turbo 5 ltr Griff. It produces
arount 467 bhp. He runs it every year at the
Brighton Speed trial.

An interesting fact he told me was that he had
it reading 160 this year - on his own drive way I'm
sure (just to preserve his licence)....

Chatted to the man himself at Brighton last year. Twin Turbos were fitted in my home town by Courtenays and even at low level setting he is putting out the figures quoted above.

Apparently if he turns the boost up too much then the cam starts moving around too much !!!!!!!!!

Sounded awful though He didn't get it off the line well on his first run he reckoned and I only saw the second run which wasn't very spectacular either.

It was moving by the end though !!!

Cheers

Sounds like a good candidate for traction control (and probably extra-brown rubber safety pants)
