Compared an S8 and E55 today. No comparison, the S8 was in a different class to drive.

Now seriously considering one so was looking for feedback from anyone on here who knows about running an S8.

...I assume you mean the previous generation E55?

I had an S8 for a couple of years - fantastic cars, with firm sports suspension that suited me to a tee, but which resulted in the car always being criticised by the motoring press (as they compared the ride to a Jag or a Merc).

They're quite expensive to run in general, but I didn't have any major problems at all (main dealer serviced). You'll get about 17/18mpg in town and about 26/27mpg on the motorway.

Future classic and brilliant value for money, but I'd advise getting one with a warranty if possible!

I thought I posted to this yesterday but obviously finger trouble got the better of me!

Not had an S8, but myself and several other PHers have had A8s. Agree that they can be expensive to run, I would suggest that a good warranty is almost mandatory. My A8 was great when it worked but spent more days in the dealership in approx 2 years of ownership than my TVR Griffith did!!!

I found dealers very variable (some exploitive) and parts were expensive. Also a lot of independents won't/don't touch A8s which means that main dealers are often your only resort.

Tyres can also be a significant cost at around £175-£200 a corner!! My 3.7 returned good mpg for such a large car (30mpg on long runs), but the S8 has different gearing I believe.

Fantastic when working, dire when not!

Hi
Had an S8 for a couple of years - v.good and had no problems at all right up to 110k miles. Used main dealer in Lincoln and was v.pleased with the service etc.

As posted before tyres are expensive but worth it as traction is fantastic on new shoes!!

Would seriously consider another one....
