Highest mileage multitronic with no problems
Discussion
What's the current mileage record for a Multitronic box that has not had to have anything fixed on it (clutch plate update, ECU repair etc)?
Mine has done 116K, I have never had any problems with the box, phoned the Audi garage where I bought it (it had always been serviced there) and they have no record of any work being done to it. Of course the first owner could have had work done elsewhere but as far as I know it hasn't been touched.
Can anyone better that? Or is mine about to go wrong?
My '97 2.8 A8 did about 120,000 before the box went into limp mode. I wasted several hundred pounds getting "experts" to basically tell me it was broken - no way! - and then I gave up and drove it around for 18 months in third gear. 15,000 miles later the engine had had enough and grenaded on the M5.
That was the second big motor I've had where the 'box brought it's useful life to an end at around the same mileage; previous was the Senator 24v I had back in the nineties whose auto box started dropping out of top gear for no reason and was promptly traded for a TVR.
My A8 3.0 TDi is now on 114,000, and something is telling me it's time to move on ...

Hi Billy,
I've got my 2005 2.0T tiptronic in for a service and cambelt (75k) next month. I'm thinking of asking for a price for the ATF change.
I have a quote from APS in Brackley of £190 to do the job, but my only concern is that my car is as an approved used Audi with a warranty is that changing a 'sealed for life' oil may invalidate any claim I may have on the 'box, unless Audi do the job...£££???!!!

Are we getting Multitronic and tiptronic mixed up here? The tiptronic is used with larger engined cars and is basically a traditional torque converter type auto. As I understand it the Multitonic is a CVT type auto box and has reliability issues. My local dealers technicians called it the Multichronic.

You'll be fine as long as the job is done correctly and with genuine oil.I've got my 2005 2.0T tiptronic in for a service and cambelt (75k) next month. I'm thinking of asking for a price for the ATF change.

Redline do an oil for these that I'm told is very good (from Opie Oils) but not something I know much about.
Longlife refers to engine oil, not gearbox.

So no one can better 116K with an unmolested multi box. I win then . Whats my prize?
Sorry, but my multitronic is almost at 150k with no problems and still going strong. All oil changes done on the button.- Frantically touches wood with EVERY part of my body*
