VAG TDi engine

So even the 110bhp engine could be chipped to 210bhp?
No it can't.
I though you meant is the 130PD the same as in an Ibiza as in a Golf as in a Passat. AFAIK the 130 and 150 are the same unit with different boost. 100 is PD but 110 is not (?)
Also thought that most tuners get up to 200bhp from the 150, a fraction more with a few other mods. The 130 is a fraction behind the 150.
I see where you are coming from Muncher and have often thought the same.
Each engine is the same capacity so what do they actually change to increase the power?
I have the lowliest 90 and was gonna get it chipped but have decided it is more than enough for me as its only my commuter car and I find it has all the overtaking power I need for the 90 mile daily run.
(actually, its my only car at the moment!).
I find the low down torque incredible and having driven petrols since I really think I will now always buy diesels for my commuter car.
Although its only 90 BHP its also an incredible 200 lbft of torque which for the money (under £4K) probably cant be had with anything else of the same age (97).
Whilst waiting to over take I generally sit on about 2300RPM and then need no downchange for a quick, quiet and safe overtake.
I know its no performance car and doesnt even warrant comparing to any petrol hot hatch but for commuting its perfect.
Oh, and I drive it 500 miles a week like a loony on my favorite roads and still get 50MPG.
definition:
loony: a safe driver who stays within the boundries of the law and exagertates their mileage.
the above statement is for my insurance company!

I own an 8 month old 996 C2 cab and a 3 month old Golf 150 TD GTi. I have done 7000 miles so far in the golf wacking the backside out of it, on one journey travelling from Sunderland to south of Horsham, then to Stanstead Airport and back home south of Horsham and still had fuel left- near on 650 miles! The golf is a great car to drive, more comfortable than the Porsche and uses bugger all fuel. You can't beat the sheer pace of the 996 or the fun of it, but most days I take the Golf. You'll have to go a long way to get better value for money I think.

Great review!
Im so impressed with my Golf 90 TDi that I already know Im going for the 150 as soon as i have worn this one out!
(I'll be doing 25,000 miles a year so may as well run this one into the ground first, if thats possible with a VW diesel!).
I've got the 115pd in my Bora Sport - I drive 25000 plus miles a year in it and it goes like clappers (within speed limits of course) and like DustyC, I get over 50 mpg every time.
The only problem I have had was an occasional loss of power which after a number of visits to the very friendly local VW garage in Andover, got sorted when they put a new turbo in (Under warranty thankfully)
On sunny days like this though, I wish I had brought the Chimaera to work!
