Anyone got a handy site which decodes the VW option codes (2002 TDI 130), or do I have to go to the dealer and look like a nerd ?

I don't know of a site, what information are you exactly after?

Just bought a used TDI - it's got some obvious add-ons, e.g. leather seats, little spoiler above rear window but wondered what the other options listed on the ID tag were - it's got 40 odd 3 digit codes in part 4.

There arent that many options to choose from on the 2002 from memory;

- metallic paint
- 16" alloys
- leather
- parking sensors
- winter pack
- vw removeable tow bar

The 6 disc in dash cd changer is standard, as are the little 15" alloys.

Got the paint, alloys
Got leather and the rear spoiler as above
Got heated seats so does that mean the whole winter pack?
No parking sensors (unless they're invisible?)
No towbar
Haven't poked any CDs in dash yet, but I thought it was a single (Gamma). There's a button on it for a remote changer but nothing in the boot.
Got aircon (but not climate) - have been told this is just a change to the control panel and is retrofittable - true or false?
No cruise (£320 retrofit from AMD?)

Think the winter pack also has things like heated washer jets, headlamp washers and maybe automatic wipers.

There not invisible, unecissary on a car of that size. Hence why not many seem to have them. I do prefer the vallence on the rear bumper though.

Your not missing anything there!

The in-dash changer looks like it was introduced as a standard item to late 2002 (2003 spec) vehicles. It will have buttons labeled 1-6 on whats looks like a single disc unit, if it just has eject and select then you have the single disc unit like me.

Again, think climate is standard on the late 2002 (2003 spec) cars. Have no idea if this can be retro-fitted. But can't imagine it would be cheap, as long as it has a/c and blows cold air in the summer

Thanks for the link - nice to know what it is they do... likewise not not sure I fancy dismantling the airbag and spaghetti under the dash... probably end up with cruise control switch that turns the rear fog lights on :-)
