Silencing a SS exhaust on Mk2 16v
Discussion
I've just recently bought a 1990 G Mk2 16v Golf.
It's fairly standard, apart from a bloody awful DTM sports exhaust. I admit to finding the sound quite pleasing at low and high revs, but in the middle of the rev range, it is incredibly boomy.
As this rev range coincides with motorway cruising speed, it's driving me crazy.
Is there anything I can do to reduce this other than making replacing it with a standard system my highest priority?

Is it a full system or just a back box?
Not really much you can do other than bin it if its a pain. Standard 16v exhausts flow pretty well anyway (larger bore than the 8v) & if its a standard car it will make next to naff all difference even if it is a full system, but Jetex jobbies are 3 silencer types & are normally good for flow & are pretty quite too.
I've picked up a jetex for mine but its not fitted yet, I'll let you know noise wise when its on.
