Does anyone know on here whether the above car is going to be built. I've heard rumours that it will be appearing sometime 2005, but having spoken to Audi they are not confirming anything.

Anyone know more ?

Also, if is it due what would you expect it to sell for ? Around 50k.

Hope it is true as I am extremely interested. Have an Audi at present but was looking to change in next 3 months to a TVR, but may be tempted to wait for this.

Cheers.

What about the current RS6. Available as either a saloon or an Avant (estate).

RS4 will probably be more of a Sports car, whereas RS6 is more Grand Tourer. IMHO.

The guys over at www.rs246.com have a complete forum dedicated to the discussion of the new model. Enjoy!

I'm just trying to get some info now...

Over on RS246 there is a supposed spy shot of the 2005 RS4 that is about as far from an RS spec car as you can get...

Just spoke to Audi, getting back to me later today on specifications & costs, but seem to think 99% sure of it going ahead.

By what they were saying, the car will be in limited numbers (400 to UK was mentioned), and orders are being taken. The two dealers I spoke to both saying £1000 down to secure (and would be first on both thier lists).

Any info I get I will post later today.

My order has been in since November. No money needed to secure that though.
Latest reports are for a 420bhp 4.2 V8 FSI engine (no turbos ) and trying to reduce weight to 1400kgs.......
Can't wait for Brunters 2005

Just phoned Audi again, after no-one got back to me.

Basically given the brush off saying way too early to give any details whatsoever, and they suggest phoning back in 12 months

I wish they'd make thier mind up.

I've got the 'standard' V8 S4 Avant. Is it not quick enough?

Doesn't *feel* as quick as the 2.7T S4

Having owned both I would agree above 2k revs but below that the V8 is king. The stats are all faster too as the Autocar tests have shown. The V8 is just too smooth to feel really fast - good job its got a rev limiter!

I guess most of the "feels faster" factor is down to the difference between the way forced induction and naturally aspirated engines deliver power.

Exactly that. A naturally aspirated engine is an engine with never-ending lag

Standard RS4 pulls 20 car lengths on a standard S4V8 to 150mph.... and there are bugger all standard RS4's left.

Next gen RS4 does need to, and hopefully will, go some.

Don't wait for an RS4 --- but the standard S4 and take it to AMD for the 420 bhp+ conversion -- it is a monster of a car and a fantastic job
