Which car alarm do I have, is it standard and how does it work?

1996 VW Golf TDi

Description of alarm:
Has a full closure alarm fitted. No manufacturers name on it anywhere.
In dash board on passenger side is a slot that with electrical contacts that the alarm fob fits into. Makes LEDs flash different but cant work out what else.
Was this the standard golf fit?
At the moment the alarm only "blips" on arming/disarming but I want it to blink the indicators. Some alarms are programmable (via certain fob press sequences), anyone know if this one is?

Thanks.

I think full closure is standard, not part of the alarm. the rest sounds like an old style immobiliser. and isnt standard.

Golfs of that era wouldnt have had the slot but would have had full closure (on holding down the key) and a sound of the horn I think...

I can do full closure with the key (horn doesnt sound) or by pressing the fob.

(Can only do full opening with the key).

Added information.
The Alarm also has a working automatic immobiliser. This doesnt require the fob slotting in to operate.
Im guessing the fob slot is to prgram the allarm or the fob. When I plug it in the 2 dash LEDS (yellow and red) flash together.

The imoobiliser operates with the fob though (doesnt necessarily mean its one unit of course but most likely).

If I unlock car with fob I have 30 seconds to start it. If I dont start it imoboliser cuts ignition. If I press the fob button whilst key is in ignition then it disables imobilser and allows another 30 second window to start car.

Does this sound like the standard device?

(Note: 30 seconds maybe 60 seconds. I have never timed it!).
