Evening all,

wow my first post!

This morning my Polo's alarm has stopped making noises. Well I say stopped, but it still sounds the siren but only very quietly. I recon it's got wet or something. It's a proper VAG alarm and I was wondering if anyone's got any suggestions as to a fix or do you recon it'll have to go to a garage?

The code on my fob is MPT 1340 if that's any help and the siren box doesn't feel wet at all but could be inside I guess. The whole system still works and locks the car, blinks the lights etc, but doesn't have any volumn any more. You can barely hear the beeping when you lock/unlock it

cheers for any input.

Hmmmmm, the lack of volume usually indicates a lack of voltage / power going into the system - does it have a battery back-up?

If it was wet (and from experience and I know that water and electricity are not that happiest of partners) I would doubt that it would work at all......?

Well, it's now sort of working again. The beeps have returned when you lock/unlock but the siren's still quiet. I think it probably has a battery back up as I think it's a CAT 1 alarm. How can you tell?

I'll have a play with the multi-meter this weekend. If I remove the siren to test it, do you recon it will upset anything? It's connected by a 4 pin multi-plug so looks to do more than just make a noise.

Hmmm, simply unplugging it might be a problem - If it is a CAT 1 then it more than likely will have an imobiliser linked in, so you won't be able to start the car. I'm also not sure how the back-up system works on these so you need to be careful.
