Hi All

I have just bought a 1999 A4 Avant but it only came with one key. I gather that to buy another from an Audi dealer it costs about £130 .

Has anyone found any cheaper ways of getting one - i.e can they be cut and programmmed at your high street key cutter?

I believe the fobs are the same for VW as well?

Cheers

I have the same problem. Enquired for a new key two years ago and it was a ridiculous price as you say. Survived with one key since. Apparently you can get a replacement for £70ish but it will not be the flick key style.

stealer only as with most cars these days, the cost is an unfortunate problem due to increased security, gone are the days when a missing key meant a couple of quid. and you should value the car accordingly if missing.. sorry if i sound like i'm teaching you to suck eggs, but its a problem that happens all to often

moral, always make sure your getting the full set of keys (maybe 2,3 or even 4)also on higher value cars its comforting to know that noone else (in theory!) has another key to your car from a security point of view

if you buy the remote key you can code them your self if you put the old key in the ignition and switch the ingition on then with the new key lock the doors then hold the key to the lock position and press the open button on the fob

that works with the vws should think it would work with audis too

Agree Mustard about the number of keys and value etc. I bought it at auction however and didn't get the keys till after I had paid for it - saved about £2k though so the cost of a new one is covered by that. Just wish you could get a cheap version as an emergency type key.

Don't really fancy risking one key, if you lose it you are buggered!

Cheers
