Twanga noise on MK5 GTI Golf
Discussion
Guys, any thoughts on this.
Turned sharp left at slow speed onto the drive as usual on tuesday and her a spring like twang. Moved the steering wheel left and right and there was a lighter but similar noise. I wasn't feeling well so put the car away until today. Got the car out, again some light noise initially, ie 1/2 turns of the wheel then it went away. Drove 5 miles no noise. On return jacked the front of car up, to check the springs in case one was cracked or broken, but nothing visible with whole of front of car in the air and able to turn the wheels left and right with no noise. Whilst it was up I lubricated the bushes just in case for the control arms, the ARB connections and bushes. I also checked the rear springs, nothing wrong there either. Then drove for another 12 miles trying to recreate the movement that made the noise but nothing.
Any ideas?

Springs do make noises like that from time to time, especially it you have had the car jacked up and the suspension hanging down. We often hear that after servicing a car, I refer to it as the springs settling down.
But can also be caused by broken spring, so I hope you followed the entire coil with your finger to feel for a broken bit that was possibly out of sight.
If your sure the spring isnt broken I wouldnt worry about it at all. It probably wont do it again.

Hi TT, thanks, yes i traced each coil into the top and bottom seats with my fingers, nothing to feel. After some more use over the weekend, still no noises. But can also be caused by broken spring, so I hope you followed the entire coil with your finger to feel for a broken bit that was possibly out of sight.
