Hot running V8 RS6
Discussion
I had the same kind of problem with my RS4 but it would only overheat at high engine speeds, as soon as I sat in traffic or slowed down it would be ok. It turned out to be the waterpump which I needed to have the cambelt removed to be replaced. Expensive from main dealers but I got a Audi specialist to do it. The company is called mdm technik, 07833475336.

Presumably you're also fitting a new belt, tensioner and rollers...
Thanks for the not helpful after the fact heads up and sorry if my post makes UK dealers look expensive, but sadly, thats a fact of life.Knowing where to stop with part stripped cars is a big point, choose wisely and you save money in the long term I guess. That said, not one for throwing money away, the mechanical work you note was done less than 12,000 miles ago when the belts were done.
Maybe the wise money would have been to fit a pump and stat at that point, but where do you stop..

The wise money WILL now be to get rid and buy something with 3 years warranty...

Common sense tells you that if you're going to have the 8.5 hours labour carried out, why not spend an extra £80 to have the Belt and Tensioners changed whilst the labour has already been carried out for the thermostat?
I've had my Cambelt changed 3 times in about 20,000 miles because I've had various amounts of work done and didn't see the point in not changing the belt and tensioners for a small sum of money more.
It's always a good selling point too..

Works done now so no going back. To be honest I'm happy with the work done, fault cured. The car is not a P&J and I have other things I would rather throw money at for little return. My somehwat jaded opinion is that if belts and tensioners etc can't last between service intervals, then the car is engineered to a lesser standard than I already think (you're now thinking what a strange statement for someone posting as TVR-Owner to make)...time it was sold as I really am less than pleased with running costs and its inability to underatke one fairly fundamaental thing for an big estate car - TOW.

TVR_Owner - I was indeed offering a little friendly advice; in no way pointing the finger or picking fault (and no I don't work for Audi, I work for a specialist dealing with a lot of S & RS cars).
RS6 running costs are no secret and compare with most other cars that will go that quickly; if not a little more so to account for the weight they carry. An RS6 *will* tow but will not do so legally; an A6 quattro towbar would physically bolt on but does not have EU type approval for use on the car. This can invalidate your insurance. The car is not free of fault here as you've come across a known weakness, just one of those things.
If the car does not do what you need it to then it probably is time to move it on.
