Having recently purchased my 55 plate Passat 2.0 TDI with 45k on the clock I have proceeded to complete another 3k in less than 3 weeks. As the car only came with a 3mth VW warranty I am looking to get a service done very soon. Can anyone recommend when the timing belt needs to be changed?

Or am I really being dim - does a diesel have a timing belt?

Check the manual that came with the car. If I ask Audi (same engine as yours basically) they say 60k but the manual says 80k! I'm sticking with the manual.

When I asked Audi (07/07 PD170 A4) they said 75k, I will have to check againconfused

Pretty sure all VAG engines are now 60K or 4 years. They introduced it a couple of years ago.

Mines the 140bhp so yours is probably about right, I'm no expert though.

All Audi's built from 2004 onwards are 75k or 5 years with the exception of the RS6 and A2 1.6FSi. Most where either 60k or 80K before.

Memo came round all the UK dealers last year.

Of course there are a number of say 2003 TT's (not covered by the memo) where the handbook says 120K, when an identical 2004 model (hand book still saying 120k) is now supposed to be done at 75k. SO you have to use a little common scene.
