Not seen, what you mean; but how about this:

The only connection to the Eisernes Kreuz it being German?

bit of a spin off from the hotrod scene IRC.
Loads of them run 'Safety Stars' etc too.

Whilst visiting the Stonar park meet, I saw a MK1 Golf with the Maltese cross painted in metal over a 'rat-look' bonnet.

I think it started in the air cooled scene and has now crossed over into the water cooled scene, no idea why though.

Ahhh, Iron Cross makes more sense than the a Malteses Cross:

The Iron Cross has been popular with many bikers, hot rodders and others who use it as a provocative gesture to offend the public, or as a symbol of rebellion or non-conformity. In the 1960s, the Iron Cross was adopted by American surfers, who started wearing medals plundered by their fathers. Cal Look, Volksrod and other Volkswagen enthusiasts often use the Iron Cross as a symbol that reflects the car's country of origin.
