Hello posters,

Any tips on buying used S3's, have searched the forums but it's not thrown up as much as I hoped it would.

My budget stretches to about 17k max so I'm looking at 210's I guess and I'm after a sub 30k mls car in Black or Silver with Black Leather and Bose if poss.

Have seen a couple at dealers and specialists (on web) and been offered a deal on a 2000 import (UK spec) through a main dealer, 14k mls, blk lthr, CD stacker no Bose, priced at £17,200. This seems a pretty reasonable deal for a dealer car but am aware of others at lower prices with slightly higher miles.

All and any comments/tips would be well received, particularly on cost of ownership (insurance, servicing, fuel consumption etc), reliability, known niggles, known nightmares, bargaining points etc.

Also if anyone has a nice silver or black car with full blk leather for sale within my price bracket drop me a line by email.

Cheers,

Tim

www.tyresmoke.net is a good place to look for advice. A few might be for sale as well.

My old man has one of these... not a bad car actually. Quite well build, but he's had a few issues. It was broken into, and the had to take part of the dash out... it has squeeked ever since, and the boot light is temperamental. Other than that, so real issues.

Quite light on its tyres, fuel consumption quite respectible, but from what I understand watch out for cars that have had coil pack problems and kerbed alloys...

used to have a chipped S3 - it was a lovely car

only thing that is a regular fault is the good old coil packs issue (though mine never went)

your budget is fine - I sold my 265bhp Mineral Grey 2001Y, fully loaded 10,000miler, import for £17.5k
