Anyone here own/owned a Mk3 Cupra or Cupra R? Im thinking about replacing my 1.6 16V polo GTI with one, but not sure.... They dont look as pretty as the GTI.. But what are they like to live with?

Appart from the brakes, body kit and price...what is the difference between the cupra and the "R"?

Ive got a cupra, its great smile Remap to 200bhp easily and it feels really quick in such a small car. The cupra and the R are basically the same apart from what youve mentioned already, same engine but slightly more power due to a different map. Definatly recomend one. There quite rare to which is always good biggrin

Are they really worth the premium though?

A good cupra is what?... £3500.... an "R" is about 5000?.... Is it worth that much more?

Not that I would say no to an R for exclusivity smile

How do you find the handling in the cupra? And what sort of MPG do you get?

You get a K03s turbo on the 'R' and brembro brakes , and some rather tastey Oz wheels. I am sure there are other things, but cant think of them.

I would look for an 'R', but try not to pay too much of a premium.

You dont get a KO3s The engine is exactly the same but with a slightly different map. No I dont think they are worth the premium, the normal cupra is a relitavly rare sight so you will still get some exclusivity. Mpg is around 30 for normal driving. Drive like your pants are on fire and you will see low 20's but yo can easily see 40 on a motorway cruise.

Handling is O.K. Lower it and get some braces and it improves things.

Your not wrong... I stand corrected smile

looking at the literature, there is not as much difference as I thought:

Xenon Bulbs
Blue Indicators
R Badges
Carbon Fibre Engine Cover
180bhp (apparently! ) Chip
Voltmeter and Oil Temp Gauge
Red Seat Belts
Seat Sport Grey Trimmed Seats
OZ 16" Super Tourismo Wheels and Pirelli PZero Asmetico (spelling) Tyres
Brembo 4pot Callipers and 305mm Vented Discs (front)
lowered 8mm and stiffened

As above thats all you get extra. The only reason I would choose the R is the brembos. They both remap to the same power aswell so the extra bhp is pointless if your planning a remap.
