S2 - hard to find info, any pointers?
Discussion
Hello all,
Am having a bit of a pig finding some technical specs and basic web pages on the S2, for both reliability, performance and overal ownership enjoyment.
Has anybody got some good pointers that they could put down, ie I would like to know the best model to look at in the S2 range. Also what are the pros and cons for a S2 against say an AUDI 2.6E 3dr Coupe?

Hi
Merv has pointed out the good places for info.
I ran a 1995 S2 Coupe until April.
Although not as much fun as my Ur Quattro that preceded it I developed a lot of respect for the S2.
Your choices are 5 or 6 speed coupe or 6 speed estate.
I would recommend a 6 speed model (usually K plate onwards) over a 5 speed. The 5 speed cars had 220bhp and 228lb ft.
The 6 speed cars get a tougher gearbox (although it's quite heavy). Also you get 230bhp and 258lb ft plus overboost. You are looking at 5.7 to 60 and more importantly, excellent in gear performance.
The engine is easily the best feature of the car. The brakes are the worst.
Build quality and cabin are excellent. The coupe is very practical as its basically a 3 door hatch, the estate even more so.
Traction and grip are fantastic but Id describe the handling as secure rather than fun. The steering is a bit light for my liking.
If you try a 2.6E coupe then an S2, they feel totally different. 80bhp plus quattro drive make a hell of a difference.
Reliability is great. Servicing at Audi is cheap (£150 quid) but anything more serious can get very expensive.
Check history and work done. The engine will do big mileage if looked after.
Id summarise the S2 as a very underrated all rounder.
Well worth a look at the money they are now going for.
