Changing the leather Gaitor - MK4 golf

Replacement arrived, but im not sure how to change the two. Does the gear knob have to come off? If so how..

lift up the boot from the surround and turn it inside out over the gear knob, you will see a clip that holds the knob and gaitor onto the actual gear stick, destroy old clip, remove knob+gaitor, replace and clamp clip, flick the boot down and clip into the surround.
