Have been thinking about getting one of these-there are what seem to be good deals on the 08 model run out cars via "Drive The Deal"..wondered if anybody has any experience of the car or broker that they could share please?
All/any thoughts very welcome.

Thanks all

Steve

I've got a vRS petrol hatch, bought brand new last March. The dealer got me a price within £200 of the brokers which I considered close enough for the convenience of being quite local.
The cars themselves are great, I had an A4 vRS prior to this one, the A5 model is far superior. The only issues I have are some trim rattles (to be fair every car I've owned has had trim rattles) and road noise filters into the cabin too easily.
They all come with 18" alloys and dual zone climate (these were options), I think they get cruise as standard as well. I have cruise, heated seats, maxidot display, xenons and rear parking sensors (these are essential IMO).

I understand the latest diesels use the common rail engine which seems to be an improvement over the previous PD although bhp remains the same at 170.

The boot is massive on the hatch, believe the estate is roughly the same floor area but obviously the roof extends further. To give you an idea of the size I can get four 18" alloy wheels on their faces in the boot easily.

www.briskoda.net is an excellent resource but as with all one make forums you get a lot of people reporting problems and less reporting of positives.

I had a VRS estate for a couple of months and did about 3k in it - it had comfy seats.

Like all TDI 170s, power delivery is a bit irritating although that's a criticism of the diesel donk in general, albeit a supposedly sporty one. Performance up to 90 is ample.

Dashboard is 'OK' but like a lot of Skodas a bit dated and cheap, seemed well screwed together though.

Ride and handling are nothing to write home about, very scrabbly and vague when pressing on. Traction control unusually intrusive and irritating though. I think I averaged about 37 to the gallon overall.

For a slightly different, affordable and quickish estate car they do the job well enough.

Thanks Alex-really helpful.Had a drive of the saloon version yesterday and think your appraisal spot on.The one I tried had the dsg gearbox which I found to be pretty good having not driven an auto for a long time-they seem to have come on a bit! Think one of these will be a pretty good value for money workhorse so have been in touch with Drive the deal to see how close they can get to the spec I would like from what is left of the run-out stock (am thinking black with dsg, tints, microdot and heated seats..looking back at that it looks like old man spec!)....if this all goes well I should then be able to swop the wifes mini cooper for something a bit more "Piston Heads" later in the year...best laid plans of mice and men etc!

Cheers

Actually I can imagine DSG working better with a 170 than a manual - in the A3s they do a decent job of keeping you in the power band where with a manual it's easy to find yourself over revving it or dropping below the boost threshold.

The early 170 pd engines are pretty rough , ie noisy and peaky power delivery but the later engines are much smoother, our VRS (PD) averages 42-44 mpg and will do 48mpg on a decent run

I quite like the
