I've got a 2005 2.0 TDI and the EGR butterfly has snapped in the throttle body. No one can supply just the EGR bit it has to be the whole unit, pattern suppliers don't stock the part as it is too new and all of the breakers i've spoken to haven't realised that the country is in recession and are too busy shagging their sisters to be able to phone me back.

I have heard that you can just blank off the valve but does this harm the engine.

I know Allard did replacement pipes for the 1.9s, maybe they do them for the 2.0?

Blanking or stoping EGR will not harm the engine. Infact if it was done from new it would do it the world of good. Would not coke up half as quickly. However it would be illegal to sell a car without the EGR working, emissions! And it will put the check engine light on within a few drives, code would be something like low EGR through-put, or EGR bellow threshold.

Dont want to panic you BUT. In the last 12 months I've changed 3 engines that have internally been mashed to peices when the EGR butterfly has broken up and been sucked into the engine, if you can see its broken get it out quick. Last one was an £8000 bill, 54 plate 2.0TDI A4.

Sadly to fix the car properly you need the EGR valve assembly with the electric motor & butterfly valve etc. Parts about £130 IIRC.
