Hi all,

we have a problem with our mk1 Leon, in that one of the rear door central-locking units has gone faulty...

Seat Coventry have quoted £315 to fix it ?!?!? WTF!!!!!
They say this is because they will have to break the interior door trim to get access to it, then replace the lock, and replace the door trim....

Any leon owners out there with any tips/help/info on how best to approach this?
IF it really is a case of breaking the door trim, I'll take an axe to it myself wink and then but a replacement off ebay, but it seems like a cop-out to me.. there must be a better solution surely !?!?

I've tried to register on seatcupra.net btw, and as soon as I clicked 'submit' for the registration form, it displayed a message saying I was banned.. so not so impressed with that site.

thanks for any tips...

Piers.

I would have thought most local garages can repair said items - if new units are required then go on ebay or give your local scrappy a call

I'm not convinced that the door trim needs to be broken - if you look around the door, I'm sure you'll find release clips or screws to get it off.

Try registering on the site with a different name if you've not actually been banned - or from a different location in case your IP address has been associated with someone who is banned....

VAG groups main dealers are real p1ss takers.

A friend with an Audi with a tiny dent under the number plate who just wants it filled and painted .....Audi quoted ..........£900 odd!

yikes WTF!

The quote included removing all rear glass and the seats and internal trim.

The bumper is easily removed from the vehicle so what planet are they on??

They have retaining clips that are notorious for breaking once removed - I should think a bag of them are less than a fiver and they are a piece of piss to fit - so the dealer is bull stting if he reckons it'll cost more because of that - yes they do break, but they don't cost anything to replace.

This may help you to understand the exciting business of the inner workings of your door! -

I know its for a Golf but Mk1 Seat Leon door's are identical in everyway:

the problem is that the lock has ceased working, whilst in the 'locked' state... so I can't open the door to get at the trim panel clips etc.... (afaik)

This is a thread on how to stop leaky front doors, but I would have though the removal principal for the door cars will be exactly the same.....

Is it locked, or does it just not open from either of the handles?

VW Passats (B5 model I think) used to do this often. The fix is really simple, and just involves putting a cable back in place that pops off. The hard part is, that to gain access, you have to remove the interior door trim with the door in the closed position, but it was possible on the Passats without breaking them, so should be possible on the Leon.

I don't know about the Leon, but every Audi I have ever worked on , when the door is jammed shut you have no choice but to break the door trim off. Access to the screws and clips to remove it normally is only possible with the door open. Repair cost would be nearer £150 all in if it wasn't for the trim issue.

They are NOT ripping you off at all if this is the case. The service adviser should have explained this to you ,rather than just say, your doors broken, its £300+ to fix.

If I can get in... (there's various threads on the internet about getting enough room by the wondow seal to get a hook in to pull the door cable)... are the door locks reasonably easy to replace, or do they require complete dismantling of the whole door??

anybody have any good parts suppliers for this?

I used to use MX5parts for my mx5 (funnily enough) who were great...
