Hello All.
Through a winning combination of grovelling and incessant whining I seem to have won Mrs DD round to the idea of a new car to replace my BMW 130. An S3 heads the list ! So some queries :

- I'm after a 2007 07 at the oldest - budget is up to £20k. Seem possible ?
- The ride is a major bugbear on my 130 (18 inch RFTs) how is it on the S3 ?
- What economy can I expect ? (emmissions are around 220 I think ?)
- Any options I should look out for ? Cruise, Park Distance, Flat bottomed wheel ?

I would have thought so, just a quick search on Auto trader brings up loads. http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/AUDI...Through a winning combination of grovelling and incessant whining I seem to have won Mrs DD round to the idea of a new car to replace my BMW 130. Personally I don't find it at all harsh on the S3, (or any Audi TBH), but a lot of people disagree so I suppose it's all down to personal preference. Try test drive a couple and see what you think.dibbly_dobbler said:

225g/km and I usually average around 25mpg. On a long run driving sensibly you can get around the 30mpg mark, but I tend to avoid motorways and take the scenic routes (it's much less boring than a long straight motorway, even if it does cost me a bit more)dibbly_dobbler said:

The only options I'd look out for are the flat-bottom wheel, bucket seats and interior lighting pack. If you can find one with sat nav for a good price, even better, but you can fit it yourself for around £500.If you want any more detailed info I'd have a look here:

There are plenty of great guys on there that know almost everything there is to know about S3s.

I will have a visit to s3-talk this evening...
Remember there are two new S3s out.
The new one (06-08) and the newer one (08-) which gets FBSW, xenons, new alloys, new quattro system and less co2 output as standard.
I wouldn't pay more than 17k for the 06-08 S3, which is where they will be heading in around 2-3 months. Most at 18-19k have been sold for less and there are some amazing discounts for brand new.

Almost right, '06-'08 cars have xenons as standard too. The new one (06-08) and the newer one (08-) which gets FBSW, xenons, new alloys, new quattro system and less co2 output as standard.

The facelift model does appeal (what is FBSW by the way ?) if for no reason other the lower Co2 but a) I would need a 58 by the looks of it which is a fair bit more expensive and b) I'm not that keen on the new alloys ! (I take it these are they ?)
Would I be right in thinking they are 95% the same car ?
Cheers, DD.

Yes facelift cars are 58+ and they are the new alloys, and I prefer the older ones too.
(and facelift cars have door mirrors that would look better on a Q7, they're huge!)

The advantages of the new S3 has to be the updated quattro system, a more aggressive look and more items as standard. Tbh it really depends on what you want and your budget because when the new 08- models hit the used market they will go low priced as well but we're talking 6 months away.
That is the new alloys yeah, I think you need to see them to admire them.

They aren't that bad when you see it in the flesh, it was an EU requirement unfortunatly.Kane_ said:

I've seen them in the metal plenty of times. I still don't like them. (I was going to get some until I saw them in the metal)Kane_ said:

Again, I've seen them in the flesh and they are huge. Especially when you're driving the car with them, looking through the window they virtually fill it! I realise it's an EU requirement, but why? Do we really need to see more sky over the road behind us, or more of the tarmac right next to us? Because they're no wider, just taller.Gassing Station | Audi, Seat, Skoda & VW | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
