Anyone got one? Was looking at these on Saturday, fairly big cars. Not even sure why my mother is looking at these in the first place. Also had a look at the BMW X5 which is lovely.

I had one, but not for long! It was just too big for my nearest town (Cheltenham) It was hard to find a parking space big enough, and driving down narrow roads lined with parked cars was interesting! Apart from that it gave a nice ride (air suspension) and ok handling, nice interior, looked imposing. Having said all that, I much prefer my A6.

Mine went through tyres every 7k miles. Too big and not practical enough for it's size.

I think they have a bit of an image problem, if you get what I mean..

If it where my money I would get a Toureag or Discovery.

Test drove one before buying an Allroad. Despite having a chipped 3.0 TDi engine it still felt incredibly slow. Just tooo damn big and the back seats are not that great. Big + ugly + slow = high price for extra 2 seats

We also had a look at the Q5. It's like a baby. Like, what BMW did with the X5 - X3. Made a mini version.

Thank you for your input chaps.

The Q5s are fantastic cars, would reccomend one of those over a Q7. They are going to be very popular.

What are they actually like off-road? Do they have a low ratio box?

Have to beg to differ here - we find our Q7 difficult to fault (having also considered and test driven Disco, Tourag & X5)

We leased a new Q7 3.0TDi S-Line in March this year - 8000 faultless miles so far (and tyres have plenty tread left). Separate point but there are occasionally some very competitive lease options available on Q7/Disco etc - I set out to purchase originally, but then realised I could lease over 2 years for no more than what I estimated the depreceation would have been, and hence left my capital in the bank.

Spec front parking sensors as well as the standard rears and we've never encountered any problem navigating or parking etc.

Performance is more than adequate for this sort of car - 0/60 in less than 9 seconds & will cruise all day at 3-figure speeds whilst retaining high level of refinement - I'm not sure why anybody would want better than this in a large 4x4/"SUV".

X5 & Tourag (& M series) boot size all poor in comparison to Q7 (this was important to us). Disco boot is bigger than Q7 but we found that to drive it simply did not offer the level of refinement/luxury that the Q7 offers.

If you really need off road capability then I've no doubt the Disco would win hands-down, but otherwise for everyday comfort/luxury/refinement/practicaility then I'm absolutely happy with the Q7.

Attention all Q7 drivers,

Audi u.k has just launched this week a software update for the air suspension to increase tyre life ,
the suspension drops at a lower speed to get more out of the tyres. People out there might even get to 10k before replacement of the front 2.

Audi are still offering 100% goodwill on tyres if under 5k on the clock.
