I used to have a 100 Avant, and an Allroad, and think they're brilliant. The Allroad was a 2.5 TDi and was reasonably quick for a big estate. It was a manual though, probably the wrong choice when the rev range is so narrow. Got about 30mpg out of it, though the engine was just loosening up, and fuel economy improving, at 20K miles when I sold it. The petrol engines are quite thirsty but pokier.

The 2.5 TDi is more powerful, more modern and more economical than the 2.4. Resale will be better and it's EU4 compliant so tax will be lower if it's a company car.
Love my 130 TDi 4 pot A4 and the V6 is supposed to be better still. I chose the 1.8T for the cabrio over the 2.4 - more economical, quicker and cheaper - just no V burble.
Due to be replaced next year, so currently with free leather and stuff (remember the popup?)
