My other half has the opportunity to buy a Golf V5 from a neighbour. Has anyone any experience of the V5? Good, bad?

She has been hankering after an Alfa 147 for some time and part of me says go for the Alfa (bit more fun, image, something a bit different) but my sensible head says the Golf would be a good buy - especially as the neighbour is willing to negotiate on the price.

Oh, the other thing is insurance - is it bad? She's only 23.

Cheers,

Graham

Have heard plenty of good things about them. Apparently the best engine in the range (until the R32 came along).

Assume they have the sports supension from the 1.8T otherwise would be a bit stodgy.

Not very quick if thats what you are after- just as wallowy as the rest of the Golfs, 150 or 170 bhp engines dep if early/late.

A chipped 1.8T esp a late one would murder a V5 but is as aurally exciting as a washing machine tho!

Thanks guys, will probably have a drive and see what I think. She drives a Corsa at the moment so anything will be an improvement.

The golf certainly looks nice, in a silver blend in with the masses kinda way (nice wheels though) however the Alfa seems just that bit more special (just a bit scared of reliability, crap dealers and depreciation).

Cheers

If it is at all relevent, the Alfa has a very small boot. Put me off anyway.
