POLL: Audi 'Pearl Necklace' daytime running lights?

I'm interested in the views on this - having had a couple of loan cars from Audi with them fitted, I immediately went into the MMI and turned them off before driving away...

But I regularly drive with my sidelights on if the weather is anything but bright and sunny! I've concluded that I just don't like the Audi 'pearl necklace' style, but in general I do agree with permanent running lights...

Hmmm good question.

I'm the opposite liked them at first - in magazines - but having seen them in real life I'm not a fan, its too much of a 'modded' look and will be cool for 5 minutes, in fact I think they are already uncool. They could be far more stylishly executed than they currently are.

It was Ok at first but there are so many that the novalty has gone now.

This time next week every chav will have them on his Nova/Corsa/Saxo/Clio

They look crap. And on the R8 they make the car look far too flash, IMO.

On the other hand I agree with running lights, especially if you're driving fast. I had my sidelights on all day today.

I voted "They look crap". Not so much because of how they look on the top of the range Audis, but how they will (and already do) look on corsas, saxos and puntos around my area.

Daylight running lights stand out at the moment as we are not used to them. If everything gets them, then their impact when they are seen becomes less - they are not noticed as much in effect. This endangers the lives of every motorcyclist on the road that relies on their headlight to stand out to motorists paying little or no attention to what is going on. I advocate recommending that they are not fitted to road cars (volvo too)

Volvo used to have their daytime lights as damp candle side lights that would mark the cars presence, but not offend. The fairy lights on the front of audis cast little light to benifit the driver, yet project a piercing spike of light into the mirror of the car infront, or cars coming the other way. Not great!

absolutely, after a few months of DRLs the numpties'll be having even more SMIDSY (Sorry Mate I Didn't See You) crashes. A very bad idea from the hard of thinking IMHO.

DRL's are all when and good - solves the problem of people not putting their sidelights on in poor weather - but whether they need to be quite so blingy is another matter.
