VW Jetta (Golf MK5) Stereo Change

Im having some difficulty installing an after market stereo in my 07 Jetta. I can fit it all and have all the parts but when the unit is all plugged in it stays on all the time. When I take the key out it should switch off and beep at me reminding me to take the fascia off, but this doesnt happen. I have changed the wires like the manual instructed to do so but it is the same in either configuration...

Its a Pioneer DEH-P85BT. At the moment to save my self the embarisment of a flat battery I have re-fitted the original.

IIRC the on off signla comes via the CANBUS, so you need to be sure the canbus adapter you have supports that function correctly.
