Gents,

With the recent wet weather I have made a particularly rubbish discovery. My Mk4 R32 comes with it's own internal water feature. I put my sun visor down today and a cascade of water landed on my lap, my drivers footwell is literally a few cm's deep in water. I have looked around to see where this water is coming from but so far have had no luck - any one else had an impromptu H20 display and care to tell me how you sorted it and how much it's gonna set me back!!

If you'd said the passenger footwell I'd have said that the pollen filter cover wasn't fitted properly.

Driver's side though??? Was the car parked on a slope? If so, was it pointing up or down the slope?

Could be a blockage in the skuttle panel under the bonnet.

Think i've sussed it, after pouring a pint of water on to the sunroof i noticed it just sat there instead of draining away, reckon drain plugs are knackered, thinking it might be an expensive job :-(

The drain pipes can get clogged up, trying clearing them out with something like a welding rod

the drainage pipes for the sunroof follow down the A piller and go through the inner wing. Usually what happens is they become dislodged and end up sending water down through the door hinges. On mk2+3 golfs you can get to the pipe by opening the door as wide as possible and using small pliers to poke the pipe back through the hole, i dont know if it is as easy on a mk4 or if you have to remove the inner arch lining to retrieve it.

Best get a dehumidifyer in the car too once you have found the leak. You may end up having to remove the carpets if they are that wet as the underlay underneith will take ages to dry out and your car will end up smelling of swamp!

Been sorted (hopefully) by some welding rods and a pair of scissors. Turns out the drainage pipes were blocked full of cack (how it gets there from the sunroof i have no idea) and the silly one way valve at the end of ech of the pipes was not letting anything out, rectified but cutting them off!!

Cheers for all your help.
