Well mine was a 99 my Avant chipped to around 310 hp.

I found my wife could make it do around 30mpg, however I never bested 22 and seldom got better than 18mpg when it was driven the way I wanted

99 - 00 would make that a 2.7l bi-turbo, would it not?

I'm on the lookout for a B7 S4 Avant with the 4.2l V8. What kind of mpg will it do please?

Sorry for the shameless thread hijack, OP! whistle

I'm getting about 24mpg in mixed driving in my 99 S4. 28 or 29 on a long run, less in pure urban driving.

Chipped by MRC to about 320bhp.

The B6 or B7 V8 mpg:

Well I changed the B5 S4 2.7 Bi-turbo for a Porsche 993, however I have had a B6 S4 4.2 V8 since and owned it Feb 2007 to June 2008.

Well, again diagnosing my own heavy right foot I guess I was getting 22mpg average, and again my wife could make it do many more mpg.

The longest run we did was to Alpe D'Huez in it with me driving over 2 days. Averaged 26mpg to Folkstone, and 23mpg whole trip.

The computer showed around 18mpg in normal day to day use for us.

Hi mate wavey - is the R32 going?!

The RS4 has gone now (I know!) and to be honest I never looked at the mpg for fear of cardiac arrest on the road, but generally around 200 miles a tank in mixed driving...drink

In my experience a progressive drive will get about 22 in the 2.7 and 22-24 in the V8.

Both do mid-high teens around town.

26 is doing well in either on a run, driving like a ladyboy I've nursed 29 average out of a V8 (OK, I cheated and reset the counter on the M1 roadworks laugh )

I borrowd an 04 S4 Avant for a week from Audi.

I'd averaged 12.3mpg. But that was a mixture of country lane hooning and town work. And it was a one-off, so a majority of it was play-time.

I was a bit sheepish at the hand-back when the guy was checking everything, sat in the drivers seat, clocked the mpg figure and looked me straight in the eye with a big grin and said: "so, you've enjoyed the performance then..."

So in terms of 'real world mpg', I've no idea.

Mine (98 2.7tt running 320 bhp) would average around 18mpg driven around town, or mixed with brisk a-roads. Motorways or sensible right foot use could see up to 28mpg, but rarely any more than that.

05 B7 Avant averaging 23.1 for the last 2000 miles on mostly rural roads although a trip to London Saturday dropped it to 22.9.

Hi Oli! thumbup

R32 is going very nicely thanks! Not chopping it in just yet - going to wait until my next job change over the next couple of years then upgrade my wife's and mine at the same time. If she sticks with an A3 tractor I'll get an S4 Avant. If she wants the Avant soot chucker I'll get a second hand TT or Monaro VXR as a weekend hooner. Or an S4 anyway.

What did you replace the RS with? What is the capacity of the B7 RS4 fuel tank? 65 litres (14mpg)?

I believe it is somewhere between 60-65 litres (not sure if the reserve tank is 5l?)

The RS has been replaced by a Cayman S drivingbiggrin

The trade are just being silly with the Audi V8s at the moment - the dealership that are selling my old RS have nearly a £10k mark-up on it! I hope their forecourt is like this....tumbleweed

Just met an old mate last night and he has just bought a 54 reg S4 and had it converted to LPG.

The conversion cost £2500 and he reckons it will pay for itself in 18 months. He keeps his cars an average of 3/4 years.

First time I've been in one and it certainly went and sounded nice.

He hasn't noticed any difference in performance and it burns cleaner than petrol producing less harmful gases!

Where did he put the gas tank? A4s aren't exactly well known for excessive boot space at the best of times. rolleyes

Yes, they do - and it's the reason they don't have that much rear legroom (which is the complaint you usually hear about them space-wise).
