150 and 163 BHP 20vs use the K03 turbo

180 and 190 use the K03s

Map is of course a little different to accomodate. FYI the K03 is safe to about 200BHP and the K03s to about 250.

The engine are the same as well as the turbo, K03s. All AUM, AQU, 2001 Golf GTI onward have these turbo. It is just a ramap which determine the BHP, they can be remap to 220 - 250-bhp.

So the standard ecu from a 225hp Audi TT when plugged in would automatically give the standard vag 150hp version 225 then?

I'm not convinced of that to be honest.

Most I've ever heard of a 150bhp VAG engine reaching after a remap was 197bhp.

The 225bhp engine is engine code BAM. I think there are quite a few differences from the other 1.8T models, including a different turbo (K04).

I've heard of some very late 150s being fitted with the S but not as a rule or with any regularity.

The 150 bhp turbo engine (AGU designation) has a cable throttle.

Post 2001 GtIi's AUM's onwards have drive by wire throttles.

The AGU engine has bigger ports (and is known as the Big Port Head) and the AUM's are smaller. The AGU engines can generally take alot more power than the later engines.

http://www.torquecars.com/audi/18T-tuning.php

i had a link somewhere i think from VW vortex with a HUGE breakdown of the 1.8T all the variants and the tunign options therein. will try and dig it out.

i beleive there were more internal changes when they started to hit the 210+ variants on the 1.8T forged internals from memory. i know the recirc and boost controller different a common upgrade if you have remapped one. the 5potT will always out torque this lump but its not a bad engine at all.

edit:: ah yes here it is
http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=450388
lengthy but worth a read. if you plan getting one pick wisely.

The drive by wire 01 on models are all the same engine spec upto 193hp A4 just running different map. The 210-225 are different with bigger airflow meters 3" rather than 2.5", bigger injectors, bigger turbo k04s, twin intercoolers, twin cats, different internals for compression, but both 150-180 are forged internals just not to the same spec as 210-225.
The k03s can give upto 240-250 max but at a price 3k usually, 5k gets about 300hp with upgraded turbo, cooler front mount ect, 280hp from k04s agian 3k roughly or 5k gets you 300-350 again depends on the component upgrades.

The main problem is faulty electrical components like coil packs, flow meters, temp sensors, to name but a few.

It appears that there is NO difference between the 180ps and 150ps engines fitted into the TT, both have a KO3s turbo`s easily capable of 220bhp.
With the 150bhp car being approx 130KG lighter than the 180ps and lighter still compared to the 225ps car, a remapped 150 should blitz the 180 once the cars are off the mark. See engine codes in link below.

why would the 150 be 130kg lighter than the 180?

cant see it being trim and such like, 130kgs is a LOT, or is it s FWD only? i thought all the mk1 TT's were 4WD.

is not so much the power you want to look at its the torque and the delivery of it.

IIRC the TT was originally released with the BAM (225bhp) engine, then the 180 was released later, both the 225 and 180 are quattro which would explain the weight difference to the 150 as they will have the haldex unit installed for the power transfer to the rear wheels The 150 is only fwd and was released towards the end of the mk1's run.

everyday a school day, didnt know the TT mk1's had a FWD only variant.

i have a remapped 150 1.8T FWD A6 as the missus car. Its quick when moving but thumping a standard 180, hmmm only at motoroway speeds. on twisites and such no chance, all my lower powered quattros have all dropped the A6 on the twisties but on a motorway straight A road its nippy.
